Jesuit Communications and Jesuit Music Ministry in the Philippines invited young content creators to participate in a multimedia competition to celebrate the Ignatian Year. The competition aimed to inspire Filipino youth to imagine creative and original ways to “see all things new in Christ”.

A number of high school and college students from Jesuit-run schools across the country pitched their creative response to the question: “What is St Ignatius teaching the youth today?”

The competition ran from November to December last year, and the winners were announced on 19 January. Three winners were declared in the poster category. First place went to Gabriel Antonio Bazan of Ateneo de Zamboanga University, second place to Angelo Emmanuel Lorredo of Xavier School in San Juan City, and third place to Ryan Jayden Lim also from Xavier School. Special recognition awards were also presented to finalists in the song writing and video categories. The winners received cash awards and gifts.

Jesuit Communications Philippines Executive Director Fr Emmanuel Alfonso SJ noted the inspiring creativity of young people. “It is difficult to think through this pandemic, and many young people have struggled with mental health issues. And yet they remain creative as some of the artworks we received prove,” he said. “They seem to find in beauty or art solace or comfort or even refuge from the pandemic.”
